Hello everyone,
I was reading thru the AFT website a while back and read an account of where Richard describes speaking to some veterans about how they would go past the fear and entire a state of hyper awareness where all was calm (I'm paraphrasing here, I can pull up the link if y'all want). Sometime back Richard wrote about this state on the yahoo group page but I can't really find it. Anyways, I was wondering how would you differentiate between this state and a PCE? How is a PCE different experientially? Just something I was thinking about that's all.

I remember reading about it too, would be hard to replicate that level of fear me thinks, pretty extreme practice.
1) sign up to defense forces 2) go to war 3) get scared out of ones brain 4) go beyond fear 5) go AWOL ASAP

It sounded like the beyond-fearless state was a dissociated state where everything was somewhat unreal (albeit hyper-clear). Whereas in a PCE you experience actuality, not unreality.

I remember about 13-14 years ago I went on Roller-coasters for the first time. This was at Busch Gardens in Williamsberg, Virginia. I remember being at the apex of the very first drop (of this ride - seaworldparks.com/en/buschgardens-williamsburg/Attractions/Rides/Apollos-Chariot ), and figuring out that there was a way I could detach myself from my fear and just let it happen. I remember learning the Witness (Kenneth's No Dog) and remembering that time on the ride. It was the same thing. I was always a really anxious person. When I was on that ride, strapped in and it was about to go down that ridiculous hill, I found a way to dissociate. It made it tolerable and I also remember everything being really smooth and crisp. Anyhoo, I thought I'd mention it because it reminded me of the going past fear thing. All the best, Jayson

For some reason I had thought that Richard was using those accounts as examples of people describing their PCEs and for a while I thought that if you keep conjuring up fear you can use it to "swing" to the other side (paraphrasing words from AFT site). That was my way of being impatient and trying to take a rapid method to an actual freedom. Rather than using the thrilling component of fear, I tried to just go through it if that makes any sense. This was also before I even had an experiential understanding of pure intent. When I look back on it, it was pretty stupid to say the least. Well that had some not so great consequences, but now I know what the actualism method is.
That is an interesting anecdote mumuwu. Maybe it is similar if not the same thing that those veterans did. I think the hyper awareness is due to the adrenaline rush. A while back I tried being 'mindful' during such times as when the startle reflex happens (e.g. when it is really quiet and I am resting and someone makes a really loud noise) and noticed that immediately following the surge of adrenaline due to the instinctual passions everything was hyper clear and smooth and crisp as you describe. Maybe it is the same thing, maybe it isn't.
